COP31 President Murat Kurum delivered the opening address at the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) 2026 High-Level Session in Geneva, Switzerland. The session addressed the decisive role of climate data in global negotiation processes, Türkiye's preparations for COP31 and the strengthening of scientific climate observation infrastructure.

Kurum stressed that effective policy cannot be made without reliable climate data, and that COP31 will place science and policy on a stronger common footing.

Coordination with international scientific bodies such as the WMO stands out as one of the most critical elements supporting the conference's identity as an “implementation COP”.
